"UN TRAIN PEUT EN CACHER UN AUTRE" INTERPRETED
BY ALL THE COMPANY "This creation by Gigi Caciuleanu is a trip through the periods, the styles and the experience of each one of us".A photo album, passing from the individual to the collective, a wonderful adventure exploring a portrait gallery, as varied as, it seems, contradictory. Life, with its' little private moments to the unified eruption of the mass, tensions between conflicting uncertainties, persistent tension and the tensions that spill over, chance and the unforseen playing out their impetuous urges. Lifes experience, played out choreographically, through sarcasm and irony, where tendereness is both the underlying driving force and the final consequence of the interwinning of forgotten memories and anger. It is the evanescent which finally persists, and the project which becomes reality. From each new meeting, on the station platform, a hearthbreak is left behind, and only time will finally sort them out. Solitude in the heart of the group may often be more wonderful than the selfish image in the mirror, while space too may be transformed to silence. The actors move in a background of sounds, surrounded by pratical accessories. The choreography completely overlays the music : the musical fragments, the spoken texts and suggestive silences are subtly interwoven. "Letting myself be completely submerged in certain texts of Proust does not prevent me appreciating Greek or Latin poetry, while listening to Stockhausen, Bério or Pendereckiat the same time. Cultural norms may, of course, have some influence, but culture cannot be acquired in tidy deep-frozen packages, each on its own shelf. For me, the addition is not simply the product of a few specific components, but also a new world, with its own characteristics. You need to analyse it, but my aim is still to make a synthesis". The choreographer continues : "If a group is to be situated in time and space, the range of sound passages can be very widely conceived : opera, folklore, jazz, variety music, sounds, whale vocalizations, mediaeval choruses, contemporary music, pop music, songs, etc...I take music as a partner with the choreography and the dancer, but always as the servant of the world so created". Leaning with his elbows on the crossing-gate, Gigi CACIULEANU seeks to contemplate the trains of live, his own and those of others.
