"MASKED BALL" Danced
by the whole company. Choreography
: Gigi Caciuleanu "I am often surprised that I have compared dance to a football match without the ball. " Where that idea is further developed a choreographic work becomes virtual and inventive, projected towards astonishing aesthetics, rising from the energy of the dancers in the absence of a ball (the abstract). The result is a powerful dance asserting its place between a desperate combat and the effervescence of the game. "game" in its basic meaning - "joc" as used in Eastern Europe, meaning both "dance" and "game". "My idea is to explore the limits of football (the positions, the atmosphere, tensions, sensations, ambitions) and the game areas - the stadium as theatrical stage. "I have no wish simply to illustrate a sporting game, nor to create a pantomime heavy with anecdotes; my ambition with this creation is to concentrate on the choreography of certain fleeting images which startle the imagination - not by copying the image but more by creating a series of energetic moments, whether it be the dynamism of confrontation, the hunger to win no matter the price, the aesthetics of energetic effort, and to create this within the language of dance - in particular contemporary dance - with both its rules and its freedom of expression which brings it closer to the public and in particular the young."
